These are straight awls designed for a wide range of leatherworking tasks. Their slim oval blade profile allows clean, controlled piercing through leather and other similar materials. They are suitable for general leathercraft, saddlery, bag making, shoemaking, pattern work, and can also be used for hand welting where a straight blade is preferred.
The awls are made from German tool steel and are available in lengths from 60 to 90 mm.
The blade has an oval cross-section that provides good control when piercing leather. The straight shape makes these awls versatile for a wide range of leatherworking and shoemaking tasks.
An important feature of Starko awls is the standardized 3.5 mm shank. The shank diameter is the same for all Starko awl blades, regardless of blade size. This allows the blade to be used with a suitable 3.5 mm collet holder or secured in a screw-lock handle.
The shank has a milled flat for secure locking with a screw, helping prevent the blade from rotating in the handle during use.
The awls are hardened and hand-sharpened to a proper working edge. As with other cutting and piercing tools, the edge should be refreshed periodically by the user to maintain good performance.
Starko AW-E, AW-L, and AW-R handles are compatible with these awls.
Detailed dimensions for each awl size are shown in the product photos.
