The blade has a flattened rectangular cross-section with smoothly rounded edges and a curved working section shaped specifically for outsole stitching. Its geometry allows the awl to follow the stitching path along the welt and sole while maintaining good control through dense leather components.

Made from high-quality German tool steel, the awl is hardened and tempered for durability and long service life.
